ABOUT CREATIVE ARTS

Designed for young children ages 2.5-4, our Creative Arts program is a perfect introduction to the preschool environment. This class provides a playful exploration of creativity through a variety of experiences in music, drama, and art. Students experiment with painting, drawing, sculpture, and collage in an informal introduction to art and creative expression. Throughout the class, our teachers support and guide children through social interactions and help develop communication skills, bringing a strong social-emotional development component to these classes. Sessions include playtime and a snack.

ABOUT OUR PRESCHOOL

Preschool at Roaring Mouse Creative Arts Studio is a place for children to grow, learn, play, and create. Our preschool philosophy borrows from a range of respected, diverse educational approaches with an emphasis on play and social-emotional development.

We offer a dynamic arts-based morning preschool program from September through June for children ages 3 to 5 years old. Our program is taught by a team of two experienced artist-teachers. The classroom is further supported by our education director who visits the classroom regularly, leads weekly creative movement classes, and provides ongoing mentorship on development needs, curriculum and classroom design.

We are firm believers in the power of observation, emergent curriculum, and empowering students to explore their passions and pursue that which piques their curiosity. Our teachers observe and reflect upon what students are most drawn to exploring and plan daily experiences accordingly, providing the tools and materials needed to honor and expand upon those topics. We combine this with a strong social-emotional component based on practices developed by RM founder, Lassie Webster, and Second Step*, a curriculum designed by Committee for Children which teaches skills in the core areas of empathy, emotion management and social problem solving.

At Roaring Mouse our teaching philosophy is rooted in a deep respect for children and the transformative power of their play. We view children as creative and capable learners who are each valued members of our community and from whom we all have much to learn. We utilize an emergent curriculum that is designed to meet the needs of preschool children for creative play, social interaction, reflection and learning. Our aim is to make Roaring Mouse feel like a home away from home. A place to play, and get messy. A place to explore friendship, and build community. A place for collaboration and creation. A place where we can tell our stories, and dream about a bright future. Academics and learning will, of course, find their way in the midst of all the fun we have in store. Our primary goal is to foster a sense of belonging, and develop the social and emotional skill sets kids need to feel confident, accepted and celebrated in a classroom setting.

Roaring Mouse has been a home away from home for preschool students and their families for over 25 years. We think it’s a very special place and can’t wait to share it with you and your child.
