Mother’s Day Madness

We love our Mommies!!!!!!   As Mother’s Day approached, we wanted our preschool classes to have a special way to say, “I love you!”.  Rummaging through the internet I came across these very unique flowers and decided it had to be done.

The Merry Month of May

Our Artemis class decided to have a little mischief on May Day  so we got busy and made…

some May Baskets…
Then we got a lot of flowers…
and filled the baskets!
Finally, we took a walk around the neighborhood
We’re pretty sure no one knew who left those May baskets hanging on their doors!

A Day in Preschool

A few great snapshots of  preschool at Roaring Mouse.  Enjoy!

Cheryl was intrigued with these pompoms, and being in the mood for spring, decided to set them out with sky blue paper and lots of colorful petal shapes.  She had in mind flowers, but Cheryl, knowing how inventive young artists can be, was open to flowers never before imagined.

Deconstructed Flowers

Meanwhile, in the playroom, there was lots of creative activity with blocks and these great Ikea stools that transform into amazing spaces and places!

Back in the art room, egg carton cups add a new dimension to painting!

And finally a few good, green scoops of fun!

Preschool at Roaring Mouse: Register Today!

This has been an exciting school year at Roaring Mouse!  This fall we were the recipients of three awards.  In September, we placed in the top five finalists for two ParentMap’s Golden Teddy Awards, one for Best Art and Creative Classes and one for Best Birthday Party Venue.  Just two months later, in November, we placed 2nd for Most Awesome Art Classes in Red Tricycle’s Totally Awesome Awards.  We are so grateful to our families for voting for us, and feel proud to present programs that inspire such loyalty.  Thank you!

We know that our Preschool Program played a large part in the recognition we have received, and with registration for our Fall 2012 Preschool Classes in full swing, we thought it might be the perfect time to let you see why our families value this experience so much.  Here are just a few highlights of what we do throughout the year.  Enjoy!

Play Based Learning:

At Roaring Mouse, we believe play is the most relevant and accessible form of learning for children.   Building on children’s natural instinct to play, explore and discover, we design our classes to pique the curiosity of our students, and provide experiences that entice them to pursue their interests that to their heart’s content.

Inherent in play based learning is the lesson of working together, cooperative play and social emotional learning.  We enhance these experiences through the use of Second Step and other tools designed to help children learn skills for making and nurturing healthy friendships.

Process, Product, and The Way of Art at Roaring Mouse

Sometimes art making is a journey.

It might start with an idea, a shape or a feeling…

Or maybe there’s a bunch of stuff lying around, and it catches your imagination…

If you trust it, it will unfold at it’s own pace, meandering around the mind and fingers until something is brought forth.

Maybe you will discover new colors, brush strokes, and expressionistic styles.

It can change course and lead to something totally unexpected

Sometimes a little guidance can show what is possible.

Then you can take off on your own path…

Getting lost in the process is sometimes part of the journey…

One way or another you will find yourself again…

Sometimes, you might not understand someone else’s work of art, even if it is imbued with meaning to the artist.

Maybe it will peak your curiosity, prodding you to wonder…what in the world is that about?

Maybe you will use your imagination, and make up your own story.

Or maybe the artist will let you in on their idea…

Teaching us to see the world through another’s eyes.

Good lessons to remember at the beginning of a new year.

Goodbye, 2011.

Hello, 2012.  How will you create your new year?
